THE PHILOSOPHY
Beyond the absolute
In their most pure essence, the synergy between technique and emotion constitutes the keystone of the Thesis project: aiming at one single purpose which, for the audio world, is the Sound.
For pure reproduction, every element has been conceived and manufactured according to quality parameters, ensuring sheer excellence.
Since the beginning, the Thesis product range has been conceived, designed and developed according to these principles.
The Thesis project is characterized by a no compromise attitude: in the world of hi-fi car audio, the Thesis name is referenced as a product with the highest technological content, capable of arousing the emotions of even the most demanding audiophile.
The presentation of the Thesis HV venti to the public in 2004 marked a new horizon relating to the technologies applied to car audio.
From that moment, the research activities of the Audison R&D team have continued. The standard set by the HV venti had immediately raised a new challenge: the ambition for this new project.
Technique and emotion have once again been applied to the highest level; an engineering based project aimed at obtaining extraordinary results relating to acoustic reproduction, with reference to musicality, transparency and truthfulness.
The project
In order to create a system capable of reproducing an amazing, first-class Sound, each acoustical component must abide to the most elevated standards of quality and design. The Thesis amplifiers offer their best performance when used with speakers designed with the same philosophy.
Throughout the years Thesis has represented a name referenced to the perfection of electronic design and performance. Today, technological development has enabled us to push the envelope in terms of the prestigious Thesis tradition. Creating a supreme product in amplification, the Audison development team has achieved their ambition of reproducing an unparalleled Sound.
Now, Thesis speakers represent the natural expansion of the Audison brand in the acoustic sector.
TARGET
A speaker’s technical definition as an electromechanical device which converts the electrical signal provided by the amplification into acoustical pressure waves, cannot alone describe its mechanical complexity and its emotional role.
With the Thesis speakers, the Audison R&D team have reached a significant evolution; producing a speaker system that can match and complement the Audison amplifiers sound, worthy of the Thesis nomenclature.
Unique and groundbreaking: Beyond the absolute.
TRANSPARENCY
The ability to see the heart of the speakers is the chance to call forth the emotions, to discover what is hidden behind a great acoustical result. Because transparency is not merely a design element, rather transparency of Sound.
Thesis speakers awake the passion for music listening with a total involvement of the senses: fascinating to the eye, seducing to the touch, captivating to the ear.
MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
Like musical instruments are destined to the creation of sound, Thesis speakers are designed for music reproduction. Wind, chord, percussion and electrical instruments along with the human voice contribute to the creation of the musical message, complex yet harmonious. In the same way, a system composed by the tweeter violino, the midrange voce, the woofer sax and the subwoofer basso of the Thesis range become an extraordinary harmonious group.
A result that goes beyond High Fidelity, a system capable of provoking intense emotions.
DESIGN
Overtaking the intrinsic limits of traditional speakers was the primary goal of the research for this project. Thanks to the most advanced FEM (Finite Element Modelling) software along with measurement and analysis devices as Klippel®, a mathematical model was worked out to start the development. This, combined with intense prototype development was used in search of the ideal transducer.
A big magnet and a rigid cone are not sufficient to create a strong and detailed sound. Sound is generated by the alchemy of elements that cannot be seen, from the pulsing heart of the speaker.
LINEARITY
Defined by electrical and mechanical magnitude, the relation and interaction between these elements determines a speaker’s performance. With the variation of the applied power, this relation may lose its balance, generating “non linearity” distortions. For each of these aspects, the TH Thesis speakers development offers an innovative solution.
MOTOR ASSEMBLY GEOMETRYThe architecture of the magnetic group weighs directly on the transducing ratio of electrical energy in the mechanical movement. Research into the importance of creating a powerful, wide, uniform, symmetrical magnetic field has brought original solutions.
The high precision mechanical parts, created by machining solid one piece material, include a REN (Rare Earth Neodymium) magnet in a unique structural geometry. Reducing dimensions and weight was made possible using REN, as these magnets are much more efficient compared to the traditional materials.
The increased magnetic intensity and density necessitated the use of dual aluminium shorting rings, used for an efficient reduction of the inductance modulation required to totally exploit the system’s potential. Sized for each model, this technique solves the problem in a decisive manner, providing a wide, well articulated presence and realism in the basses.

MOBILE ASSEMBLY GEOMETRY
The ability of a loudspeaker to follow the musical signal variations depends on the mass of the moving parts: the lower the mass, the better the response to the transients. The weight of the voice coil former and the coil itself accounts for more than half of the total weight of the mobile assembly. A flat wire, edge wound, single layer CCAW (Copper Clad Aluminium Wire) voice coil, was used for the TH Thesis. The increased length of the wire enhances the strength factor (BL) and the compact turns increases thermal dissipation. As a project choice and strategy, we aimed at optimizing the balance between the motor and mobile assemblies.
The impedance of Thesis speakers is average higher than the standard, making the match with the amplifier much easier. The light weight generates an acoustic sensation of transparency and strength of the musical signal, with an exciting speed.
SURROUNDS GEOMETRYA speaker dynamics represents the ability of the loudspeaker reproducing, with the right impact, the difference between silence and sound, and back to silence. To generate this sensation, the cone of the loudspeaker must be able to move through its excursion range following a linear axe and then stop tailless.
The design and the materials used for the TH loudspeakers surround and spider allow a total symmetry of movement and correct damping of the inertia.
The proprietary TWR (Triple Wave Rubber) Butyl Surround low profile is what is closest to the ideal motion. The musical aspect shows a sophisticated, yet energetic character, using “silence” to focus on the scene even during the most complex musical performances.
HEAT STABILITYThe musical message presented to the loudspeaker from the amplifier is composed of current pulses which, in an instant, can bring the speaker’s internal temperature to extreme levels. Heat can change the resistance presented to the amplifier by the loudspeaker. Therefore, damping and distortion can also change. The first meter of this phenomenon is the Sound.
Through a forced ventilation circuit, the TCS (Thesis Cooling System) improves the exchange of hot air contained within the motor assembly with cool outside air, maintaining the appropriate operating temperature of the speaker.
The benefit of this system to the listener is a feeling of sustained, effortless emission, naturalness, detail with a solid sound stage and image.
AIR FLOWSThe basket contributes to the acoustic results of the loudspeaker. During the reproduction of a track, the speaker cone moves generating air compressions and decompressions in front and behind the membrane. While moving, the mobile assembly makes the whole speaker move generating resonances which scatter the energy.
The Thesis TH basket is made out of an anti-resonant die cast alloy which dissipates kinetic energy, eliminating unwanted coloration of the sound.
The spokes line features an aerodynamic profile which, together with wide open windows, reduces back wave reflections and is transparent to air flows.
Listening to the THs, you can’t help amazing at their unaffected emission and timbre accuracy.
VIBRATIONSMusic is a complex signal which stimulates the loudspeaker motion with sudden stops and starts. Since the membrane is the interface between the audio system and the listener’s ear and, therefore, main actor of the timbre characteristic, the perfect membrane should be infinitely rigid and undistortable, infinitely light yet very well damped.
The Thesis innovation is the X-pulp: not just layered material, rather a cellulose pulp with co-pressed glass fiber mesh. The co-press process improves the material’s cohesion, optimizing its mechanical characteristics: the lightness and rigidity of glass fiber with the damping and musicality of cellulose.
The transparent dust-cup is made of Polycrystal and is the result of a thorough research into materials, adding to the cones profile, making the structure complete and solid.
APPROPRIATE TUNING
Assembling a speaker system imposes choices in which parameters such as personal taste, the physical installation limits and the acoustic environment of the vehicle itself have to be considered. Thesis speakers ensure the highest performance with both multi-amplified active systems and with systems using “passive” crossovers.
Pairing TH speakers with the TH amplifiers intensifies the synergy of products belonging to the same magnificent project. Therefore, choosing an active multi-amplified system or the use of passive crossovers is merely a question of personal taste.
The available crossover networks are designed for:
- TH 3.0 voce with TH 1.5 violino, creating a mid to high system as part of a "mixed" multi-way system (THX MH);
- TH 1.5 violino and TH 6.5 sax creating a full range two-way system (THX 2FR);
- TH 1.5 violino, TH 3.0 voce and TH 6.5 sax creating a full range three-way system (THX 3FR).
Each filter is, in actual fact, an “open” design which can be customised in order to obtain the best acoustic response in any environment.
The mother board of the filter is designed for adjustment versatility.
It is possible to:
- change the components to modify the cut-off slope (6 or 12 dB/oct.) and the Q (quality factor) at the cut-off frequency;
- add or remove delay or resistance circuits to compensate for differing path lengths and to adjust the system to the vehicles acoustics;
- modify the output level of every speaker connected to the filter;
- introduce impedence linearity circuits.
According to transparency standards of the Thesis project, these modifications are within the grasp of even those who are less than experts. Through a dedicated area of the Audison website, the user can interact with a qualified professional who will guide him through the system tuning procedures.

GRILLE
In the automotive environment, the task of the grille is to protect the loudspeaker. The Thesis grilles, complete the design of the component, and are absolutely transparent to the sound. Made out of a zinc alloy that is three times heavier than aluminium, they contribute to the damping of spurious resonances.
